Without innovation, would the internet, fibre optics, drones, satellite imaging, or virtual reality even exist today? We take many innovations, big and small, for granted because someone else already came up with the idea. Or did they?

The Apple iPod transformed the music industry in 2001, with its concept of mobility. But this was not their idea, this was the innovation of the Sony Walkman in 1979. Just as the innovation of the rotary drill initiated many future improvements in the drilling industry. We have many such innovation opportunities in our industry that have not yet been tapped.

Our three-day innovation symposium and exhibition from 4-6 October 2022, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Al Khobar, offers you this unprecedented opportunity. And we cordially invite you to bring your distinctive creativity and curiosity to our symposium table.

As this exceptional event draws ever closer, I would like to highlight the hard work and commitment shown by the superb members of our Organizing Committee to bring you the inaugural Drilling Innovation Technical Symposium & Exhibition (DITS&E). They have donated their time and expertise so that others in our drilling industry can benefit and capitalize from this opportunity platform. Our elite team members, drawn from Saudi Aramco and our valued drilling industry partners, can now see their industrious efforts come to realization.

The Committee members met as individual strangers back in March 2022 with a common focus, and now as a formidable team, they transformed this ambitious Drilling & Workover vision and plans into reality, making valuable connections to shape an event that lays the foundation for our drilling innovations. The DITS&E Organizing Committee consisted of various teams handling the management of Internal & External Coordinators; Strategic Planning, Audit & Execution; Technical; Digital; Marketing; and Event Organizing Logistics. The involvement of each Committee member, however small, all count towards the proper execution of this key event and is warmly appreciated.

Admiringly, our Committee members also performed their regular work roles during the 7 months of preparation for this significant event and I thank their respective organizations for their flexibility in allowing them to incorporate this unique opportunity into their work day, where they further honed their organizing, verbal and written communication, networking ability, problem solving, negotiation, and multi-tasking skills. These skills were tested time and time again as challenges arose and each member of this Committee now reap the developmental rewards and further enhances their value to their organization and to our industry. I thank them all for their valuable contribution on behalf of Saudi Aramco Drilling & Workover management, our respected drilling industry partners, our event participants, and from our future innovators.
